Chana Chaat Recipe

Chana Chaat or Chole Chaat, is a delicious protein packed snack made with boiled chickpeas, onion, tomato and topped with Indian spices. Chana Chaat is a lip-smackingly delicious and healthy chaat dish, which is perfect as a snack or as a quick chatpata salad, perfect for any occasion, also perfect after school snack for hungry kids. It is great warm or cold, you just need to adjust spice level and garnishing.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cup Boiled Chana/Chickpeas/Garbanzo Beans
  • ½ cup Boiled Potato Cubes
  • ¼ cup Chopped Onion
  • ½ cup Chopped Tomato
  • 1 Green Chili Finely Chopped
  • ¼ cup Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • 2 tbsp Green Chutney
  • 1-2 tbsp Sweet Chutney
  • ½ lemon Juice
  • ¼ tsp Chaat Masala
  • ¼ tsp Kashmiri Red Chili Powder
  • Salt
  • 3-4 Papdi Puri
  • ½ cup Puffed Rice
  • Sev

Method
 

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add boiled chana, potato cubes, chopped onion, tomato, cucumber and chopped green chili.
  2. Then add green and sweet chutney, and mix the all ingredients well.
  3. Add lemon juice, salt, chopped coriander, red chili powder, little chaat masala and toss it gently till well mixed.
  4. Now just before serving, crush the papdi puri over it, and add puffed rice, mix with spoon, but do not over mix.
  5. Then place the prepared chaat mixture on a serving plate, top up with sev, sprinkle some chaat masala, and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  6. Chana Chaat is ready serve immediately with tea or as an appetizer, snack and enjoy.

Notes

  • For boiled chickpeas, soak chana overnight or 7-8 hrs, then add some water as required and boil it with little salt or you can also use canned chickpeas.
  • You can skip or add ingredients as per your taste like potato, cucumber, papdi, puffed rice and chutneys are as per taste and choice.
