Strawberry Masala Papad made with Indian style strawberry kachumber salad topped over roasted papad sprinkled with chaat masala and namkeen and served as an appetizer or as a side. A Tangy and Crispy Indian Snack.
India is known for its diverse and flavorful snacks that often balance sweet, sour, spicy, and crunchy textures. One such unique snack is this Masala Papad – spicy and tangy strawberries served over a crispy lentil papad cracker. This combination of flavors and textures makes for an exciting starter or side dish.
To make Strawberry Masala Papad, we first need to prepare a strawberry kachumber salad. Kachumber is a fresh Indian salad made by chopping vegetables and fruits. For the strawberry kachumber, finely chop fresh strawberries, red onion, cucumber, and cilantro. Toss the chopped ingredients with lemon juice, chaat masala, salt, and chili powder. The lemon and spices give the strawberries a tangy, fiery burst of flavor.
While the strawberries marinate, roast the papad cracker over an open flame until crispy. You can use any papad you prefer – I like to use the spicy lentil or pepper papad.
Once the papad is crispy, top it with the chilled strawberry kachumber mix. The sweet juicy strawberries, cooling cucumber and herbs, and spices all come together over the crispy, roasted papad for an explosion of textures and flavors in one single bite!
Finally, sprinkle some chaat masala, a squeeze of lemon juice, and garnish with chopped cilantro or mint leaves. You can also top it with a sprinkle of crushed namkeen or sev for some added crunch.
Strawberry Masala Papad is sweet, sour, spicy, crispy, crunchy, and ultra-flavorful. It comes together quickly with just a few ingredients. Serve it as a pre-meal appetizer or snack alongside a cup of masala chai. The unique flavors will have your guests talking as they pop one crispy strawberry-topped papad after another!
I hope you enjoy this creative Indian snack as much as I do. Let me know in the comments if you give Strawberry Masala Papad a try!
